A new direction

In November, I was asked to make some cookies for someone who wanted to give them as Christmas gifts. The challenge was to make the cookies resemble the recipients' very own cats. You all know, I'm usually all about the silly and the whimsical.  I've never tried to do actual portraits in Royal Icing before. However, I thought about it for about 10 seconds, and decided this challenge was just too good to pass up, Sometimes, we don't ask enough of ourselves, and it takes a gentle nudge from someone else to set us on a new path. In the end, I'm really happy with these cookies, and I hope the people whose cats these are enjoyed them, too.

  1. Cat cookie portraits, what a great idea. I think, though, that I like the whimsical better.

  2. And there they are, wonder if they stay long enough or get eaten as fast as you make and ice them. All so beautiful, what a challenge, and you did it all to per(purr)fection!!!

  3. As the person who belongs to the curled-up cats, THANK YOU so very much for the incredible time and effort you invested in these cookies! They are so beautiful that we just looked at them in awe for a day before starting to eat them.. But they are being eaten... And they are delicious! The likeness to our much loved cats that you were able to create is uncanny. Thank you for sharing your talent with us. Truly a beautiful gift to receive! Will be remembered fondly for Christmases to come...

    1. Thanks for leaving this sweet comment, Tracey. I'm glad you liked the cookies, but I'm really happy you decided to eat them. "Too pretty to eat" is something I hear from time to time, but they are cookies, after all, and intended to be eaten. :) They were really fun to make.
