And now, of course, a pack

Here's my pack of Dougs ....er, I mean, dogs. Remember the mittens from last winter? the Doug mittens?

Mittens inspired by my friend Kate's puppy, Doug?

I like to work in many media, and it's kind of amazing how good images cross all sorts of boundaries. An image for a cookie, is pretty much the same image I'd appliqué on a mitten. Blank canvases come in all sizes and shapes. However, the art is universal.

Sez me.

Clowder cookies

My friend Kate told me a group of kittens is called a kindle. I had to google to find out what a group of full-grown cats would be called. Kate probably already knew, but she wasn't here. I had to google for myself, like a big girl.

Here's my clowder.

Painted with food colouring and good old Wilton edible ink markers. Don't you just hate it when your food stares back at you?

Ignore the pocket, please

I'm still waiting on the felt to replace the pockets. I'm very anxious to see the new colour in place. These pockets bug me more and more.

As you can see, I have been working away on the Smiley Sweater. The left front is filling up fast. I've been working on other things, too. Here are some cat face cookies I've got underway. I wanted to add some dimension to them before I paint them. I'm also experimenting to find an icing that balances good taste (as in, it tastes good!) with stability (as in, firm, but not tooth cracking hard).

Those slight divots in the eye mounds are usually considered a defect (craters), but they sort of work here, don't they?

Another tea time treat

My grandmother (the original and REAL Grandma Coco) always made Maple Walnut Cupcakes for summertime picnics. When July rolls around, I like to make them in her memory. I'm still fascinated by the possibilities of fondant, so I had a go at fondant maple leaves. It seems fondant doesn't like our high humidity. I snapped this picture before the leaves could go completely limp.

I was wrong

It`s been a busy time around here with lots of cookie-ing. However, I haven`t forgotten my Smiley Sweater entirely. It`s just been slow-going.

Remember when I said there was no wrong way to go about it? Well. I was wrong. When I went to add the patch pockets, I didn't have the exact colour of felt that I wanted, so I thought I'd just go way out on a limb and use 2 drastically different colours. Sometimes that works. If you're off, you might as well be WAY off. I thought because I planned to embroider on the pockets, that it would all work out. Well, nuh-uh to that!

Ugly, right?

I have mailed a small swatch off to the Felt on the Fly lady, and she will send me the exact colour of felt I need. She's nice that way.

So hoppy to see you

I freely admit I'm a cookie dabbler. I follow the serious cookiers online, but I don't pretend to be in their league. As with most of the things I so, this girl just wants to have have fun. I can see that sometimes the real cookiers are not content to make a bunch of all-the-same cookies. They make them in sets. They make a bunch of different cookies that are linked by theme and colour palette. Looks like fun! Here's my first try at that:

And you know what? It IS fun. I think the frog will find his way onto the Smiley Sweater.

Gone, but not forgotten

These are the cat face cookies I made for the Canada Day sale. Calicos, of course.  I forgot to show them to you before the sale.

And now, it's too late, because they're all gone. They sold out REALLY fast. We had a great day (in spite of rain earlier in the day) and we made some money for the Lyndhurst Feral Cat Project. Yay! And not a moment too soon, because .....
